MYOB -- Mind Your Own Boundaries

MYOB — Mind Your Own Boundaries

My son had some friends over the other day, and my daughter wanted to make sure that none of the boys came into her space. She put two signs on her bedroom door: “No Boys Allowed.” Then she tied a shoelace to her doorknob with a makeshift talking teddy bear alarm.

As you can tell, my 9-year-old daughter has some serious personal space boundaries!

It’s easy to establish boundaries when it’s a physical space; but, what do you do when you’re trying to establish boundaries for your energetic space?

Take for example, someone joyful. You don’t mind if their energy field bumps into yours, because it’s contagious joy.  But, what about someone who is angry? You definitely want to hang the “no grumps allowed” sign and lock the door in this case.

Here are my top tips and tools to manage your energetic boundaries:

  1. When I encounter someone happy, free and light, I smile and give him or her a hug. They usually appreciate it, and I usually feel great afterwards. (P.S. if you don’t feel right about stealing a little bit of their positive energy, just remember, you’ll pass on to others what you absorb : )
  2. If I’m going into a challenging meeting or facing a confrontation, I always bring with me a rock, a seashell, or my favorite Citrine crystal. Crystals raise our energetic vibrations, which is especially important when others bring your energy down (click here to see my YouTube video on how to use crystals in your life). The rock and seashell also can bring you back to the calming energy of nature.
  3. Tree hugging and ocean wading are the absolute best energy lifters! You can absorb tremendous wisdom, strength and grounding, just by hugging a tree or wading in the ocean. You can’t always hug a tree in public, so in that case, put your left palm on the tree trunk for a few minutes and you’ll get a similar effect. In general, your left hand receives energy, and your right hand sends it out.

Remember you don’t need boundaries in nature. When you knock down all those walls, it’s amazing what can come to you.

A bee visited me the other day as I was meditating in nature. She just sat on my left ring finger for several minutes to say hello.

I wonder. . .Was she absorbing my energy, or was I absorbing hers?

Ground It Out

Life can be filled with challenges, stress, and obstacles.  All this energy can get bound up in our bodies and manifest physically.   Nature offers us an opportunity to reconnect and ground out that energy, just as lightening rods ground a lightning strike.

Make an effort to get out into nature, whether you take a hike or simply stand on a small piece of grass.  Take your shoes off, their rubber soles insulate too well.  Dig your toes into the ground and take three deep breaths letting that bound up energy flow out through your toes.

You’ll be surprised how this simple exercise can change your outlook and give you new energy to face a new day.

At Pranatude on 4/28, I’ll be sharing how connecting with plants and nature can bring greater balance into your life.
